Heidelberg names Christoph Burkhard CFO

Burkhard will join the Executive Board on October 1, succeeding Volker Herdin, who will retire at the end of September.

The Supervisory Board of Heidelberg has appointed Christoph Burkhard as a member of the Executive Board and chief financial officer, effective October 1, 2026.

Burkhard will succeed Volker Herdin, who will retire on September 30. Herdin will oversee the handover through his departure to ensure a smooth transition.

As CFO, Burkhard will be responsible for Finance, Controlling, Investor Relations, M&A, Accounting, Legal, Tax and Information Security.

Burkhard currently serves as CFO of construction equipment manufacturer Wacker Neuson, a position he will leave August 31. He previously served as CFO of wind turbine manufacturer Nordex and held a number of finance and business leadership positions within Siemens Group.

“In Mr. Burkhard, we have gained a CFO with extensive international experience who possesses excellent expertise in the areas of finance and investor relations,” says Martin Sonnenschein, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Heidelberg. He adds that Burkhard has demonstrated an ability to generate sustainable cash flow at publicly traded international engineering companies.

Burkhard began his career as an analyst for the European Commission in Luxembourg before joining BHF Bank in Frankfurt. He later spent six years with Siemens Financial Services, where his responsibilities included structuring and negotiating project and export financing.

“With Mr. Burkhard, we are gaining a CFO who will sustainably strengthen our company on its path to becoming an integrated technology group,” says Jürgen Otto, CEO of Heidelberg. “In addition, the focus will be on expanding the financial strength of Heidelberg and positioning the company appropriately in the capital market.”

Burkhard says he looks forward to helping shape the future development of Heidelberg alongside the company’s Executive Board team.
